SINGAPORE, 30 MAY 2025 – WongPartnership LLP, a market-leading law firm in Singapore, today announced a strategic partnership with Thomson Reuters, a global content and technology company, to advance the development and adoption of AI-driven legal products across Southeast Asia.
The initial collaboration sees WongPartnership LLP embark on a Proof of Concept (POC) for CoCounsel, the professional-grade generative AI assistant for legal professionals. The next generation of CoCounsel significantly streamlines work processes across a wide range of tasks, including legal research, data extraction, and summarisation. The firm will initially look to leverage CoCounsel’s deep product integrations with Westlaw Edge UK and Practical Law, two trusted legal content portals. The collaboration signifies a crucial step forward, ensuring that AI developments meet the practical and ethical needs of legal professionals in Southeast Asia.
Ng Wai King, Chairman and Managing Partner of WongPartnership LLP, said, “As a firm, we are committed to leveraging advanced technology to enhance legal practice. The comprehensive functionalities of CoCounsel, coupled with the trust we have in Thomson Reuters’ proven legal content, present a significant opportunity for us to work with them on fine-tuning the generative AI offerings for the local market and help shape their impact.”
The scope of the POC extends to both transactional and disputes-related work, enabling lawyers to provide feedback on how AI-assisted research and Q&A, amongst others, can reduce time spent on routine tasks to increase productivity and efficiency. By partnering closely with Thomson Reuters, WongPartnership aims to set the course for how legal firms can effectively integrate AI solutions in real-world use cases across various practices.
“WongPartnership has long been a valued client and partner of Thomson Reuters in the Asia-Pacific region, and we are excited to further solidify this relationship. Underpinned by the Trust Principles, Thomson Reuters is committed to ensuring the safe and reliable use of generative AI by the legal industry,” said Carsten Rosenkranz, Senior Director, Asia and Emerging Markets at Thomson Reuters. “Annually, we are investing over US$ 200 million in integrating responsible AI across our flagship content and technology. This strategy ensures that our cutting-edge solutions are built and trained on our trusted, proprietary content and led by human experts with deep legal know-how.”
Notably, the POC will build a strong foundation for such long-term collaborations, showcasing how the synergy between legal expertise and technological innovation can drive the evolution of legal services.
This strategic initiative reinforces WongPartnership’s leadership in legal technology and underscores WongPartnership’s commitment to exploring innovative ways to enhance its operations and deliver outstanding service to its clients.
